Publishing is a Two-Step process: Craft and Business.
With that in mind, the Tx Two Step Conference workshops are geared toward both aspects of publishing. Topics will range from beginner level to experienced, and we have panels planned, including one on the workings of an agent/author relationship with Sara Megibow and her debut author Roni Loren and Nikki Duncan and her first editor Lindsey Faber.
New conference benefits this year include:
~ A public book signing on Friday evening where our attending published authors will be invited to boast their books.
~ An auction where you’ll have the chance to win a semi-intimate lunch (groups of 3) with our featured guests that will take place Saturday.
~ An opportunity to have 10 pages of your manuscript (complete and ready to pitch or not) critiqued by either Lindsey Faber or Louise Fury.
~ A chance to sit in on a Social Media roundtable with Social Media guru Kristen Lamb.
When: Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1
Where: Hilton Garden Inn Las Colinas (Irving, TX)
Cost: $150
Featured Guests Auction
Friday, March 30 during the book signing, we’ll take a break to auction off our featured guests, agents and editors! Each guest will have 3 seats at their table. Auction winners will eat lunch with their speaker, agent or editor on Saturday at a nearby restaurant during the lunch break.
Agent/Editor Critique
The editor/agent critiques will be facilitated by the editor and agent and limited to no more than 10 people. Once you’re confirmed as a participant, you will turn the first 10 pages of your story into Nikki by February 28th. She will forward your pages to the editor or agent (whichever you chose) and then one morning at the conference your group will take their breakfast into a private meeting room for a roundtable critique with the editor/agent. This is a great opportunity for you to get some feedback from an industry professional on a story that’s maybe not quite ready for submission or that you’re just starting on. If you participate in the critique you will not be put on the list for a pitch until everyone olse who’s registered has been scheduled. If at that point there are slots available we’ll open the pitches up to you. If you are interested in the critique, drop an email to Nikki at Nikki @ NikkiDuncan.com (no spaces).
Social Media Roundtable
The social media roundtable will be facilitated by Kristen Lamb. Like with the editor/agent critiques, one morning at the conference your group will take their breakfast into a private meeting room for a roundtable discussion on Social Media. This is a great opportunity for you to ask all the questions you may have about Social Media for why should you do it to how can you do it better and everything in between. Yes, you will get a lot of information during the workshop, but Social Media is a discussion topic that could take hours and presentation times are limited. If you are interested in the Social Media Roundtable, drop an email to Tracy at TracyAWard @ sbcglobal.net (no spaces).
Check out the rest of the site and we hope to see you in March!
If you have questions in the meantime, email Nikki at programs@ntrwa.org.
